Can You Ride This Bike? – Learning and Unlearning How to Ride A Bike

February 3, 2016 by Adam Farabaugh

can you ride this bike

This is a very interesting video on how we learn and are then programmed to ride a bike. Ever here the saying “You never forget how to ride a bike?” Well in fact you can. By switching the turning direction of the handlebars, meaning turn the bars to the left to steer right and vice versa, your mind no longer can tell your body what to do to stay upright even though you know the handlebars are reversed. And then if you do learn to ride like this, your brain forgets how to ride a normal bike. Interesting how the brain works and that it can be re-programmed but in doing so essentially erases the original connections of riding a normal bike. Also, this explains why it’s so much harder for an adult to learn to ride a bike than a kid. Learn while you’re young!

Making Your Own Bike Workshop

February 1, 2016 by Adam Farabaugh

making your own bike shop

A bike shop in your own home is more than just a place that you work on bikes. It’s a place where you go to escape, to refine your craft, and to relax and loose yourself in all things bikes. A shop that’s well setup makes not only working on bikes easy, but also enjoyable. Making your own bike workshop takes a little planning and execution but having tools organized, a place to hang jerseys and jersey numbers, and a spot to have beers and talk bikes with friends makes it an essential part of any avid cyclists home. Check out this “Specialized” time-lapse video of making a bike shop.

While the pro peloton was riding in the Tour de San Luis in Argentina, so was Vittorio Brumotti; except up the roof of a building, naturally. I wonder what spectacles he will be doing at other upcoming big races?
